130 Out of 133: Aloha Browser’s Adblock Gets a Serious iOS Upgrade

Aloha Browser’s AdBlock already ranked among the stronger performers in our tests of independent iOS browsers. With version 8.7.0, we raised its Turtlecute score even higher.

Wonder who can achieve such a result? Try any other browser on your device on the Turtlecute site!

In our latest test, Aloha Browser for iOS passed 130 of 133 checks, or 97.7% (rounded to 98%).

And no, we are not framing the three missing tests and hanging them on the office wall. There is more to do.

Adblock is also a privacy tool

The visible job of an ad blocker is simple: remove banners, pop-ups and video interruptions.

The less visible job matters just as much.

Online advertising often relies on third-party scripts and domains that track activity across websites. These scripts may collect information about pages visited and interactions with content, then use it to build advertising profiles.

Adblock helps interrupt this process by blocking requests to known advertising and tracking services before their resources load.

It does not make you invisible online, nor is it a replacement for a VPN or careful privacy settings. However, it does reduce the number of third parties invited into an ordinary browsing session.

Fewer advertising and tracking resources also mean faster loading, lower mobile data use, and less processing for the phone, which may reduce battery drain on advertising-heavy pages. Pages are easier to read, too, especially when the article is not surrounded by six banners and a video that has developed separation anxiety.

The exact difference depends on the website, network and device.

Aloha Browser on iOS now works more intelligently on YouTube and other video platforms

What changed in Aloha Browser’s Adblock

The new result did not come from a single switch. Several parts of the system needed attention.

Broader filter support

Aloha Browser now supports AdGuard Base, AdGuard Mobile Ads and AdGuard Tracking Protection filters. We also added a small Aloha filter list for advertising and tracking domains that were still slipping through.

Together, these rules improve coverage for mobile advertising networks, analytics services, and trackers associated with platforms such as TikTok, DoubleClick, and Unity.

Better blocking on video pages

Video platforms often create and control ads through scripts that modify page behavior while the page is running.

In Aloha Browser, some of the small corrective scripts used to counter these techniques were running in the wrong page context. They now run in the correct context, improving ad blocking on YouTube and other dynamic pages, including pre-roll and mid-roll ads.

No responsible blocker can promise that every video ad will remain blocked forever. Websites change constantly. This update gives us a stronger foundation for responding when they do.

Fewer anti-adblock walls

Some websites try to detect the rules that hide advertising elements.

Aloha Browser previously applied some of these rules in a way that the website itself could detect. We changed how they are applied, so “please disable your ad blocker” screens should now appear less often on affected websites.

The ideal number of pop-ups generated by pop-up blocking remains zero.

Built from your reports

This release began with your reports. Your suggestions help us make Aloha Browser better and more attuned to your needs.

Please keep sending them. A browser improves when users tell us exactly where it gets in their way, even when the report is simply, “This banner is back, and I already disliked it the first time.”

Update Aloha Browser for iOS

Update your Aloha Browser for iOS to get the rebuilt ad-blocking system, improved downloads, more reliable tab restoration, and the latest stability fixes.

Then try the pages that caused trouble before. We would like to know what disappeared, what improved, and which of the remaining three tests we should annoy next.
