VPN Kill Switch is a critical security feature in the Aloha Browser designed to protect your online privacy. It automatically disconnects your internet connection if your VPN connection drops unexpectedly, preventing any unencrypted data from being transmitted. This helps ensure that your sensitive information remains secure and that your true IP address is not exposed.

How Does It Work?

When you connect to a VPN, your internet traffic is transformed into a secure and encrypted format, making it much harder for anyone to snoop on your online activities. Think of it as creating a private tunnel for your data to travel through. The Kill Switch feature plays a crucial role in this process by constantly monitoring your VPN connection. If there’s any disruption like a sudden drop in the VPN connection - the Kill Switch immediately cuts off all internet access.

Importance of a Kill Switch

Using a VPN is a great way to protect your online privacy, but it's important to understand the risks of not using a Kill Switch. Imagine this: if your VPN suddenly disconnects, your internet connection might still be active, which means your real IP address and any sensitive information you were working with could be exposed.

This situation can be especially concerning for people in areas with strict internet rules or for anyone dealing with confidential data. A Kill Switch acts like a safety net, ensuring that if your VPN drops, your internet access is cut off, keeping your information secure and private.

Does Kill Switch is a new option

No, in the Aloha Browser on iOS, this option existed before but under a different name, we named it Always-on VPN. Due to naming standardization, we renamed it to Kill Switch.

How to enable VPN Kill Switch

First of all, this option is available for our Premium users only. To activate the permanent VPN protection, you need to open Settings -> VPN and move the toggle to the right position. Now all your traffic will go through the selected VPN server only.

Please note, that with the activated Kill Switch option, you can have challenges such as connection drops, and difficulties in reconnection. If you don't need to route all your traffic through the VPN server we recommend deactivating Kill Switch.

Conclusion

A VPN Kill Switch is essential for maintaining privacy and security while browsing the internet. It provides peace of mind by ensuring that your data remains protected, even in the event of an unexpected disconnection from the VPN. Always choose a VPN to safeguard your online activities effectively.
