Aloha Browser for iPhone Duo: your phone unfolds, your browser keeps up

Your phone now folds in half, and Aloha knows it. We redesigned the browser for iPhone Duo, with layouts for folded, unfolded, portrait and landscape, so the extra space goes to the page, not to more buttons.

Aloha Browser for iPhone Duo: your phone unfolds, your browser keeps up

Your phone now folds in half. Your browser should probably know that.

Today we’re releasing an Aloha Browser update designed for iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone. We rebuilt the interface for the new display so the extra space goes to what you’re actually doing: reading, watching and handling far too many tabs.

One phone, several shapes

Folded, you want the essentials within reach of one thumb. Unfolded, you want room for the page. Turn it sideways and the proportions change again, along with where your hands naturally rest.

So we didn’t take one layout and stretch it. We designed Aloha for each position. We adapted the address bar, navigation and tabs, and adjusted spacing in portrait and landscape, in light and dark themes. It still feels like Aloha. It just uses the screen properly.

More room for the page, not for buttons

A bigger screen tempts every app to fill it with more buttons. We pushed back. More controls stay visible, but each one has a clear place, buttons stay a comfortable size, and the page gets room to breathe.

Tested on the boring stuff, on purpose

We judge new technology by everyday moments: finding the right tab among dozens, typing an address, going back, picking up an article where you left off. If those don’t get easier, a foldable is just a phone with a hinge.

First, and finished

We like getting to new technology first. Aloha was the first browser to introduce a glass interface, and iPhone Duo is the next step. But being first only matters if it works. Apple’s tools give us a starting point. Our job is to shape them around how people actually browse, then fix the details nobody notices until they’re wrong.

What didn’t change

Bigger screen, same deal. Aloha is still built against tracking, and the new layout doesn’t come with a bigger appetite for your data. Private browsing, the built-in VPN and the ad blocker are all where you expect them, now with more room around them.
